Here’s severe storm reports from Monday. As I write this around 4:45 am Tue., there were over 400 reports of severe weather, many of them in a line from Wisconsin through Indiana and down into Kentucky.

West Michigan pretty much avoided the severe weather. There were some 40 mph gusts and a tree or two down in Glendale in Van Buren County.

There were 6 tornadoes reported - the big one in Appleton/Menasha, Wisconsin and 5 in Illinois, four of those in the Chicago Area.

The tornado in Wisconsin was a strong one. Looks to me like strong EF2 or weak EF3. Remember the rating is for the strongest part of the tornado. An EF3 tornado may br EF1 for most of it’s path, then briefly ramp up to EF3.

Eastern Wisconsin saw some big hailstones, including a report of grapefruit-sized hail. Winds hit 74 mph in Chicago at Midway Airport and at the Water Intake just east of downtown Chicago.

No storms in Michigan today, clouds early will give way to a partly to mostly sunny afternoon. There is a Slight Risk over much of the mid-Atlantic, again mainly for wind damage.

No storms in Lower Michigan on Wednesday. It’ll be another very nice, summer day.

Here’s 3-day total rainfall…none for West Michigan (Tuesday - Thursday) and a real soaking (again) for much of the Northeast.

Here’s high temperatures in Michigan today, mostly low 80s inland and low-mid 70s at the Lake Michigan Beaches. There is a Beach Hazards Statement out for today. Expect nearshore winds from the north-northwest at 12-22 knots and waves of 3-7 feet. It’ll be a good day to pick an inland lake to go swimming. Reeds Lake has a water temperature of 78 degrees.

Tropical Storm Fausto will pass north of the Hawaiian Islands today and tonight, brining showers, a bit of a breeze and some bigger waves than usual, but it’s not strong enough to cause more than a minor inconvenience. Genevieve is a stronger storm, but it’s missing Mexico and will continue northwest, dissipating as it reaches colder water in a few days.

Tropical storm Dolphin will reach hurricane status. The storm is moving west-northwest and is no threat to land for the next few days.
